The bite on the Wolf river continues to be very strong with good numbers of fish between 13 -18 inches. From Chico's down to the mouth the better spots have been the Mouth and below Boom Island drifting and jigging orange and lime jigs are still the colors. We have been using stinger hooks for the short bites. The water temp is 35 degrees with good current flow. Minnows and Gulp minnows is the bait of choice. Try to get out on the river this fall yet and you will not be disappointed.

With snow and rain the last couple days the Wolf river continues to rise. Drawing fish up from the lakes chasing bait fish and staging for the winter. The weekend is forecasted for sunshine and 50 degrees this would be a great chance to get in the boat and hook up with some of these fall walleyes.

Monday on the Wolf River from Chico's to the Rat River we had a great morning of fishing. With four people in the boat we caught 24 walleyes and kept 20 from 14 to 19 inches long. We were vertical jigging a drifting with 1/4 oz. jigs and shiners also we caught 7 keepers on Gulp minnows emerald shiner color 3". The water Temp. was 44 degrees with some current but not alot. Fish came in 16 to 23 feet of water. You still have have time to book a trip this fall, I will be in the boat for a couple of weeks be for ice up.

With the weather stabilizing, the Walleye action has really picked up from Fremont to the mouth of Poygan. Drifting and jigging 1/4 oz. jigs in the deep holes night crawler and minnows have both been working. The water temp is at 47 degrees with good current. Not many anglers on the water a great time to get on the water to get in on this action. Good Fishin Ryan
With the weather settling from all the windy weather the walleye action on the Wolf river has really been good. Vertical jigging and drifting 1/4 oz. jigs has been the best presentation minnows and night crawlers both are working. The water temp is 47 degrees and with good current. Fremont to the mouth of Poygan the action has been the best. This bite will continue till ice up about mid November.

With August here the walleyes continue to bite on Lake Winnebago on the rocky reefs using 1/8oz. jigs and night crawlers, wind is needed for the best action. The depths from 4 to 8 feet of water are best. The water temp. is 81 degrees and the water clarity is stained but not dirty. Trolling the tops and sides of the reefs have also been producing fish using small lures.
The perch action has been steady with lots of 7 to 8 inch fish. With some catches being larger. Deeper water is producing bigger perch

With the heat of the summer the mud bite on Lake Winnebago has taken off. The best presentation has been night-crawler harnesses behind planer boards targeting the walleye from 5 to12 feet down over 18 ft. of water. Purple blades and Blue Silver with color matching beads have been the best colors. I'm running a 1oz. in line sinker anywhere from 10 to 25 feet back behind the boards to reach the 5 to 12 ft. zone boat speed is 1 mph. The fish are ranging from 16 to 20 inches long. Crank-baits have also been working Reef Runners Rip shads, Deep Little Rippers have been my choice chrome colors any where from 30 to 60 ft behind the board.
The Perch bite has also started with good numbers but lots of 7-8 inches being caught. The mud rock transitions being key areas.
With the end of May nearing the bite is about ten days behind normal. With white bass still showing up in big numbers in the rivers and still full of spawn. The walleye bite is spotty, but showing moments of really good action on slip bobbers fishing on points and reefs on Buttes des Morts and Winnebago, using night crawlers and leeches. With the fly hatch on Winnebago coming to an end. Things should start to stabilize into summer patterns with consistency. With the water temperatures at 58 degrees on Winnebago and 62 on the up river lakes.
The trolling bite on the up river lakes is starting to produce some good catches of northerens and walleyes using Salmo Hornet lures and Flicker Shads. With the weather being inconstitent this spring, I'm looking foward to warm stable weather and having another great summer of fishing on the Winnebago System.
If you have any questions send me an e-mail and I with get back to you. Good Fishin Ryan
With warming weather the white bass have become more aggressive in the Winneconne and Oshkosh area. Streamer flies have been bring in good catches. The colors that are working best are any thing with white (red white)(blue white) ect. and using a 2oz. sinker with still lots of current. The size is above average with most 13 to 15.5 inches long. The walleye bite on the wolf river still remains very strong in the Orihula and Fremont area drifting and jigging being the best presentation using night crawlers , minnows and 3/8oz. jigs. The water in the wolf river is dropping slowly but the no-wake is still in affect on the river. With a great start to the season already this with be a year one will not want to miss!! Ryan
